The Clinical Research Unit works in close conjunction with The Pulteney Practice, based in the centre of Bath and easily accessible by road and rail. The practice serves a patient population of approximately 11200 on it's personal list. Through its membership with Baronet, the research database is over 100,000 patients.
The practice has been involved in clinical research for over twenty years and has collaborated on several long-term research projects for the MRC. The Clinical Research Unit was set up in 1997 and utilises a suite of offices and consulting rooms with a range of modern equipment used for monitoring patients. The unit is run by our Research Manager, Eddie Pensom. Eddie's background is in nursing but he has also worked for several years in the pharmaceutical research industry. Eddie works closely with the doctors and full administrative support is supplied by the the research coordinator Julie Sheppard.
By using fully electronic patient records, it has access to a database which provides rapid and comprehensive search data on virtually any clinical condition. This enables new study feasibility to be rapidly assessed by companies requiring fresh sites.
The practice regards patient recruitment as a key area, and involves the enthusiastic commitment from all members of the Primary Health Care Team ensuring that predicted targets can be met.
